Letter to the Editor: Corbett Marcellus Shale Plan Falls Short

Dear Editor,

In Amanda Gillooly’s article, , she outlines Corbett’s proposal set forth on gas drilling.

Corbett’s proposal fails to cover the environmental and health risks that Marcellus Shale drilling poses. Marcellus Shale Drilling is dumping millions of gallons of fracking fluid and waste water into our water system.

It is projected to increase the levels of ozone in the atmosphere as well as increase other air pollutants, in an area with already some of the worst air quality in the nation, posing countless health risks.

Unknown chemicals and toxins are infiltrating our water supply impacting the health of Pennsylvania’s residents. A stronger plan that protects human health, infrastructure, and the environment which are all impacted by gas drilling is needed.
