Murphy: 911th Fight Far from Over

Rep. Tim Murphy released a statement responding to the 911th Airlift Wing closure announcement.

In response to Tuesday's announcement by the administration on proceeding with personnel reductions that would result in in Moon Township, Congressman Tim Murphy released this statement:

“This fight is far from over. The decision to proceed with closing down the 911th is misguided, misinformed, and mistaken. The facts speak for themselves: the 911th is rated one of the most cost-effective bases in the country. A decision of this magnitude demands a sound and transparent analysis driven by the facts and data. Unfortunately, no such analysis exists, which is all the more reason why the Administration should come before Congress to seek approval before shutting down the 911th Airlift Wing.

“One month ago, the Air Force floated a proposal to close the 911th Airlift Wing. Today’s announcement suggests the White House is doubling down on a course of action that makes little financial or strategic sense.

“Along with my congressional colleagues, I’ll continue doing everything I can to expose this flawed process and save the base. The 911th offers unique strategic benefits for our nation’s military, and I am urging the President to intervene. I’d welcome the opportunity to have him come out and meet the proud and committed reservists who make the 911th one of the top installations in the country.”
