South American Theft Group Apparently Targeting Peters

Several recent burglaries have occurred in the the township. Police believe a foreign group could be involved.

PETERS TOWNSHIP, PA — Police are warning township residents to be alert after a few recent burglaries in the township and neighboring communities.

Although police declined to release specific details of ongoing investigations, they said on social media that they believe a South American theft group is involved. Similar groups were arrested in August.

Generally, these break ins have occurred between noon and 9PM so be diligent at all times of day, and not just at night.

Police advised residents to take the following measures to protect their homes and help them solve the crimes:

  • Invest in an alarm system and assure you’re turning it on when leaving the house.
  • Install security cameras for both interior and exterior of you property.
  • Secure all valuables (jewelry, cash, silver, and gold) in a safe.
  • Keep an eye out for your neighbor's home/property.
  • Request a "Vacation Check" before going away (form on Police website).
  • Call 911 and report suspicious vehicles, especially vehicles with out of state registration.
  • Call 911 and report suspicious persons. All solicitors are required to register with the township and display their permit.
  • Do not assume alarms are false.
  • D0 not advertise vacation plans on social media.
  • Do not include interior pictures of your residence on social media.
  • Do not post pictures of expensive items on social media
