The Fund for Women and Girls has awarded Matrie Johnson with the 2022 Table Kitchen Award for her outstanding contributions to improve the lives of women and girls in Chester County.
The nonprofit agency, headquartered in West Chester, plans to honor Johnson at its 17th annual Make a Difference Luncheon Friday, May 16, at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Malvern.
The luncheon will be hosted in person with proper COVID-19 precautions in place.
Johnson is the director of programs at the Home of the Sparrow, a nonprofit agency that helps women facing homelessness to find affordable housing.
She is also a founding member of Black Women of Chester County in Action. She also co-created "Housing to Self Sufficiency,” related to affordable shared housing, organizes the annual Chester County Single Mothers Conference, and serves as co-organizer for the Chester County National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week Campaign.

Maeve Kelly, director of programs and communications at The Fund, said Johnson was selected by a committee out of about a dozen nominations.
Johnson is devoted to engaging, encouraging, educating, and empowering the most vulnerable, underserved and disenfranchised populations in Chester County and surrounding communities, as well as through national platforms.
Renay Loper, vice president of program innovation at PYXERA Global, Washington D,C., will be the keynote speaker at the luncheon.
Loper works with senior leadership to implement corporate social responsibility programs for the private sector focused on engagement in emerging markets, leadership development, and responsible supply chain development.
