Phoenixville Man Runs Boston Marathon for Cancer Research

Phil Gilmore will run 26.2 miles next month as part of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team.

Phoenixville's own Phil Gilmore will run in the Boston Marathon on April 15 as part of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge Team. The money raised by Gilmore and his 550 extraordinarily well-conditioned teammates will go toward cutting-edge cancer research.

The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team is a fundraising offshoot of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The institute is an affiliate of Harvard Medical School and a leading cancer research and care center.

While the group aspires to raise $4.6 million during the historic race, since Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge was founded in 1990, the organization has raised more than $56 million to fight the disease.

The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team offers its members extensive fundraising support, training guidance from Jack Fultz, the 1976 Boston Marathon men’s champion, plus team training runs, and volunteer opportunities for non-runners. Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge runners who are not time-qualified for the Boston Marathon receive an invitational entry into the race.
