3 Die In Pittsburgh Area From Suspected Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

A suspected carbon monoxide incident took the lives of three people in Western Pennsylvania Tuesday.

BUTLER, PA — Three people died and two others were hospitalized Tuesday in a suspected carbon monoxide incident.

Emergency responders were called to a College Street residence around 5 p.m. Tuesday, where two men and a woman were discovered dead. Two others survived the incident; their conditions were unknown Wednesday morning.

The names of the victims have yet to be released. It is unclear if any of them were related.

The source of the carbon monoxide is unknown. People's Gas personnel were on the scene but did not detect any leaks, WTAE-TV reported.

It's unknown if the home was equipped with carbon monoxide detectors.

Each year, more than 400 Americans die from unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning not linked to fires, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 100,000 visit the emergency room and more than 14,000 are hospitalized.
