PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pirates fan who last week fell from the 21-foot PNC Park Clemente Wall suffered a broken neck, clavicle and back in the horrifying plunge.

But Kavan Markwood, 20, took his first steps Monday since the April 30 fall into right field that left him in critical condition in the Allegheny General Hospital trauma center.

"It’s a slow slow process, but seeing him up and moving was a huge win and definitely lifted everyone’s spirits," Jennifer Phillips, who organized a GoFundMe page for Markwood, stated on Monday. "He still has a long way to go (and) there are plenty of obstacles ahead. But he’s showing real strength, and we’re staying hopeful for a smooth recovery."
