Allegheny County Coronavirus Vaccinations: Latest Info

Here is updated information on Allegheny County coronavirus vaccination efforts.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Here are this week's developments regarding coronavirus vaccinations in Allegheny County:

UPMC administered 249,536 COVID-19 vaccine doses across the communities it serves as of March 17. This includes:

  • 10,693 to residents and staff of both UPMC and non-UPMC long-term care facilities.
  • 120,009 doses to people not affiliated with UPMC, including:
    • 77,294 to people 65 or older and predominantly from neighborhoods hardest hit by the pandemic.
    • 40,780 to non-UPMC employed health care workers in medically under-resourced communities.

UPMC has nearly 60,000 doses scheduled to be administered and 408,724 people who are registered on UPMC's online waiting list at Vaccine.UPMC.com.

Allegheny County on Friday began expanding the number of people eligible for its coronavirus vaccination sites. Now, people age 50 to 64 who meet Phase 1A medical conditions can get vaccinated.

That includes those who have cancer; chronic kidney disease; COPD; Down syndrome; heart conditions but not high blood pressure; the immunocompromised and obese and those who have sickle cell disease or diabetes.

Three additional COVID-19 vaccine clinics are opening: At the Ross Community Center, the Petersen Events Center in Oakland and the Central Baptist Church in the Hill District. All of those sites will be operational by next week.

Appointments at all sites are available only through the health department. Individuals should not contact the sites. All vaccines will be by appointment only. As has been the case, appointments will be announced through Allegheny Alerts and then posted on the county's COVID-19 vaccine page.

The Allegheny Health Network currently is scheduling appointments only for high-risk people. The network's website says that it is working to secure additional vaccines.

At Giant Eagle locations, vaccine supply and appointments are limited. Those wising to receive text message updates can sign up by texting VACCINE to 737587. Those who cannot use the online scheduling tool due to lack of technology or physical impairment should call their please call their local Giant Eagle for appointment availability.

As of Friday, 175,016 people had been partially vaccinated in the county and 154,509 had been fully vaccinated.
