Man Beaten, Strangled At Pittsburgh Area VFW, Suspect On Loose

A manhunt is underway for a man who viciously attacked someone at a Pittsburgh-area VFW.

ALIQUIPPA, PA — Aliquippa police are searching for the suspect in a vicious beating at the Penn Avenue VFW that required the victim to be life-flighted to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Oakland.

Police responded to reports of an assault at the bar at around 11:30 p.m. and found the victim had been, according to police "brutally assaulted." The victim was in and out of consciousness and had apparent serious injuries.

The suspect was identified as Brett Ours, 39, of Aliquippa. He has been charged with attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of strangulation, possessing instruments of a crime and three counts of simple assault.

In a release, police said they reviewed video footage that showed Ours "viciously attacked and strangled the victim for approximately 30 minutes." Police described the attack as unprovoked.

While being attacked, the victim was mostly unconscious and defenseless. Ours used a bar stool to assault and strangle the victim, police said. During the attack, Ours took breaks before going back and additionally attacking and strangling the victim.

No one in the bar called police until after Ours departed.

Police said they determined there were others involved in the assault. There were approximately three others in the bar during the incident, including the bartender. Police said details on their arrests will be provided once the investigation is complete.

A warrant has been issued for Ours' arrest. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts of OURS is asked to contact the Aliquippa Police Department/Beaver County 911 Center by calling 724-775-0880. Ours also has a warrant for his arrest out of the Beaver County Sheriff's Department.

Police said Ours is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
