PITTSBURGH, PA — Dry January presents an ideal opportunity to explore a variety of creative and invigorating mocktails. These beverages offer the look and taste of actual cocktails - without the alcohol, of course.

What follows is a Patch guide to some of the most inventive mocktails currently being mixed and poured in Pittsburgh.

The Commoner, Downtown

Available are zero-proof mocktails like the Almost Dawn, made with Trejo’s Spirits zero-proof tequila, Lyre’s NA Italian orange, ginger, grapefruit, and soda; The Watcher in the Woods featuring Pathfinder Herbal zero-proof, lemon, and house-made blueberry shrub; and the Barlight Express, The Commoner’s play on an NA espresso martini, crafted with Monday Zero-Proof Whiskey, espresso, and allspice demerara.

During Dry January, $1 from every order of one of The Commoner’s zero-proof mocktails will be donated to TeeTotal, a local nonprofit providing resources to individuals committed to a sober lifestyle.

Square Cafe, East Liberty

The cafe always offers non-alcoholic staples on its beverage menu. In addition to freshly pressed juices, smoothies, and specialty lattes, people can enjoy creative seasonal mocktails like Cosmo Punch crafted with cranberry and lime juice, simple syrup, and sparkling water.

Guests can also sip on Square’s famous vegan, housemade Bloody Mary which can be enjoyed with zero alcohol, as well as a Citrus Spritz made with fresh grapefruit juice, lime juice, lemon juice, and simple syrup over ice and topped with soda water.

Ritual House, Downtown

With rotating seasonal mocktails, people can enjoy fresh sips like the Lavender Lemon Drop Mocktail made with house lavender syrup, lemon juice, and Ritual pea flower purple lemonade.

Other options to expect include the Patio Punch Mocktail with pineapple juice, coconut water, ginger syrup, lime juice, ginger beer, and cranberry juice; the Beani-Tini Mocktail with cold brew, vanilla, and brown sugar; and the Strawberry Shortcake Mocktail with strawberry syrup, coconut milk, vanilla, whipped cream, and fresh strawberry.

Esquina Cantina (Round Corner Cantina), Lawrenceville

After 14 years as Round Corner Cantina, the Lawrenceville neighborhood staple has evolved into Esquina Cantina. The team behind the bar will be offering two exclusive mocktails like the Volcán made with Monday non-alcoholic mezcal, pineapple, Cholula, lime, and piquin chile; and the Corolla featuring Ritual non-alcoholic tequila, hibiscus, lavender, grapefruit, and lime. Other non-alcoholic offerings include mocktail versions of classic cocktails with options such as The Daisy which is crafted with agave, orange, lime, salt, or lime sugar.

The Dove is Cantina’s play on a paloma made with grapefruit, vanilla, lime, soda, and salt. Guests can also toast with the refreshing Mojo made with mint, lime, agave, and soda.

Cobra, Bloomfield

Cobra's zero-proof mocktails include the Cobra Crush, which is topped with boba, an option to add Red Bull and cotton candy; the Dragon Fruit Ginger Peach Tea made with ginger peach tea, dragon fruit, sparkling water, and topped with hibiscus; and the Mule Mocktail made with lime & mint, and an option to add Red Bull and cotton candy.
