Former Pittsburgh-Area Resident Killed In Avalanche

A former Pittsburgh-area man died in an avalanche in Wyoming.

JACKSON, WY — A former Pittsburgh-area resident was killed and another man was injured last weekend after the group they were in triggered an avalanche on a mountain in western Wyoming.

Kenneth "Kenny" Goff, 36, of Lander, Wyoming, died in the snowslide. He was a former resident of Bell Acres in Allegheny County, according to his obituary.

The avalanche occurred about 20 miles east of Grand Teton National Park.

According to the Associated Press,the group of four people were ascending a steep slope at an elevation of 10,400 feet, a large slab of snow about 5 feet thick broke away and slid. Goff was fully buried under 12 feet of snow and the second victim was partially buried, according to the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center.

It took rescuers almost four hours to reach the scene by skis after a helicopter tried to reach the site but had to turn around because of stormy weather.
