Fresh Market Sneaks In While the Big Names Steal the Spotlight

The hype surrounds Wegmans and Meijer, yet The Fresh Market may be the surprise contender.

While everyone’s buzzing about Wegmans and Meijer coming to town, one grocery store quietly is beating them to the punch. The Fresh Market has already claimed its spot—right in the old Whole Foods location on Centre Avenue—and renovations are underway.

No fanfare. No press release. Just action.
But here’s the real win for Pittsburgh’s price-savvy shoppers: Cinnamon Toast PGH is on a mission to make grocery shopping smarter. This local project compares prices across 12+ grocery stores—including nontraditional spots with grocery sections—to help seniors, students, and anyone on a fixed income save time and money without chasing a dozen weekly ads.
Yes, that includes Meijer (with the closest location in Boardman, OH—just an hour from Pittsburgh neighborhoods like Crafton, Sheraden, Green Tree, Fairywood, and Oakwood), Wegmans (frequently visited during family trips to the Eastern Panhandle of WV, thanks to its nearby Frederick, MD store), and now The Fresh Market, officially added to the price comparison list.
Fresh Market may be the quiet newcomer, but Cinnamon Toast PGH is the loud answer to smarter shopping.
Stay tuned—Pittsburgh’s grocery scene is getting competitive. Catch all the buzz in Issue #7, dropping October 3–9.
