The Allegheny County Health Department has shut down a Pittsburgh store following an inspection.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has shut down Ritik's Market on Smithfield Street, Downtown, for serious health code violations.

A March 21 inspection revealed that the employee restroom's handwashing station does not have a water supply. The store was given 24 hours to supply potable water to the handwashing station but did not meet that deadline. The store was instructed to provide a safe, sanitary water supply from an approved source.

The handwashing station behind the counter lacked soap and drying towels.

An inspector also found that the store was selling hard scoop ice cream without adequate equipment to provide it safely. The market was ordered to discontinue hard scoop ice cream sales until a dipper well is installed.

A "closed" placard is posted at an establishment when an imminent health hazard is identified at a restaurant or kitchen or if it has been operating without proper permits. It is unlawful to operate a food facility with a "closed" placard.
