Health Department Closes Pittsburgh Restaurant Immediately

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has shut down Nepali Asian Restaurant on Brownsville Road in Carrick for numerous health code violations.

An inspection Thursday found too many to count live roaches in a dry storage room. Roaches also were seen moving along floors and walls throughout the kitchen. A roach was found in a container of rice in the kitchen. More than five roaches were found on dry pasta in open packaging. A roach was observed on onions in a mesh bag.

The restaurant was unable to provide a recent pest inspection report.

There was no sanitizer or dish detergent at the start of the inspection.

Two spoiled cucumbers, soft to the touch, were discovered.

A "closed" placard is posted at an establishment when an imminent health hazard is identified at a restaurant or kitchen if it has been operating without proper permits. It is unlawful to operate a food facility with a "closed" placard.
