Kennywood Updates Steel Curtain Status For 2025

WEST MIFFLIN, PA — It won't be ready for Kennywood's opening day next month, but the famed Steel Curtain will be up and running again sometime this upcoming season.
The coaster was closed for the entire 2024 summer season after officials announced that an extensive modification after frequent periods in 2023 when it was non-operational. Park personnel worked with third-party engineers and the ride's manufacturer to determine how best to increase the popular Steelers-themed ride's reliability.
That modification is still ongoing, but Kennywood general manager Ricky Spicuzza said in a video released Wednesday that it is nearing completion.

"We’ve had columns delivered this off season, and they are currently going up all around me," he said, standing in front of the coaster. "These new columns will help ensure that the Steel Curtain is around, and ready to thrill riders for many years to come."
Once the columns are installed, Spicuzza said the park's maintenance team is going to add the two trains back to the track and test runs will begin. Kennywood guests are likely to see work and testing of the coaster during the early part of the season.

"Over the past few months, I’ve seen this project come to life, and the wait is almost over, so get ready to go upside down nine times on Pennsylvania’s tallest coaster," Spicuzza said.
An opening date for the coaster is expected to be announced soon.
