Longtime Pittsburgh Restaurateur Dies
The man who was a partner in several notable Pittsburgh restaurants over the years has died.
PITTSBURGH, PA — John Patrick Foy, who owned or co-owned several notable Pittsburgh eateries during his decades-long career in the restaurant business, died on March 27.
Foy, of Charlottesville VA, was 87. He died of vascular dementia.
The Cleveland native settled in Pittsburgh after graduating from Ohio University with a journalism degree.

According to his obituary, Foy helped revitalize Market Square by opening the Pewter Mug restaurant. He also partnered in two other Downtown establishments, Walt Harper's Attic and the Three Lions restaurant.
In 1974, he purchased The Hyeholde in Coraopolis, which won multiple national awards and was named Best Restaurant by Pittsburgh Magazine for four consecutive years.

He also was a restaurant consultant and moved to Charlottesville, where he also managed Farmington Country Club's fine dining restaurant, The Terrace Room.
