Driver Dies After Horse Racing Accident At The Meadows

A harness racing river died following a multi-horse accident that occurred Wednesday at The Hollywood Casino at the Meadows.

WASHINGTON, PA — A major horse racing accident at the Hollywood Casino at the Meadows Wednesday has left a harness racing driver dead.

Longtime track announcer Roger Houston stated in a Facebook post that Hunter Myers, 27, was driving Always B Royal when he injured in the accident involving six horses that occurred during the 11th race.

WJPA radio reported that Myers was thrown backward, apparently hitting his head on the track. He was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. He later died.

The other drivers involved in the accident were "banged up" but were not seriously injured.

Following the accident, the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association announced that racing has been cancelled for the rest of the week "out of respect to the Meadows racing community."
