The anchor for the Washington Mall site has been revealed.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, PA — Redevelopment plans have been announced for the Washington Mall in South Strabane Township, which is about to be razed 11 years after its closure.

South Strabane officials have revealed that Costco will take up a large portion of the mall site.

"This major investment will have a lasting impact on the township, neighboring properties, and most importantly, our residents and businesses," a post on the township's Facebook page stated.

"Costco’s arrival means the creation of hundreds of jobs, with an average starting wage of $30 per hour, along with great benefits. This development will also enhance our local economy and provide residents with access to high-quality goods at competitive prices."

A timetable for the Costco construction and opening has yet to be revealed. Township officials noted the project still requires zoning and planning approvals. Township supervisors also have to sign off on the project.

The mall's impending demolition was announced last month by the Washington County commissioners, who said that that razing the mall would trigger viable economic opportunities.
