PITTSBURGH, PA — U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick has blasted Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey over Gainey's refusal to cooperate with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

McCormick took to social media Tuesday after Gainey stated during a public appearance Monday that his administration will not work with ICE to arrest illegal immigrants who are living in the city.

Gainey "needs to follow the law and the lead of some other Democratic mayors who are working with law enforcement to keep our cities safe," McCormick stated on X."Mayors will no longer get a pass for taking the law into their own hands - President Trump and his team will restore law and order in our nation’s cities."

Speaking to the Pennsylvania Press Club on Monday, Gainey emphasized that his administration will not work with ICE and instead would do "whatever is necessary to make our city more welcoming."

"ICE is not going to end the situation of a failed immigration policy. It’s not going to do it," Gainey said, according to a Fox News Report. "What it is going to do is create more situations where people feel scared. Where people don’t feel safe. Where people do things they normally wouldn’t do."
