New Pittsburgh Airport Terminal Opening Imminent
Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis has given the clearest indication yet as to when the new terminal will open.

FINDLAY TOWNSHIP, PA — While a specific opening date has yet to be set for Pittsburgh International Airport's $1.7 billion new terminal, Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis on Thursday said its debut is imminent.
Speaking at a Pittsburgh Business Times event, Cassotis said the terminal will open before Thanksgiving.
But first comes an important date for the new terminal. On Saturday, a second public trial will be held involving 2,500 pre-selected people. The first trial last month involved far fewer people.

Saturday's dress rehearsal will re-enact what a typical day at the airport will look and feel like when the new terminal opens. Participants have been invited to bring carry-ons and travel as individuals and families to test the new terminal systems.
Interest in the new terminal appears to be high. About 10,000 people attended an open house on Oct. 11 that was held after a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by various elected and airport officials.

The new $1.7 billion terminal promises to provide additional parking, shorter waits at security checkpoints and baggage claim, and outdoor plazas where people can relax before boarding their flights.
It will replace the current landside terminal, which opened in 1992 and is plagued with antiquated
equipment and technology, frequent security checkpoint bottlenecks and an inconvenient layout. It will directly connect to the airside terminal.
