PA Turnpike Tolls Increase Again: See How Much They've Risen
The Pennsylvania Turnpike has consistently raised tolls for nearly two decades. Find out here what it now costs to travel on the road.
PENNSYLVANIA — It now costs more to to travel on the twisting, winding Pennsylvania Turnpike. Tolls increased by 4 percent on Sunday, an increase that turnpike commission officials approved in July.
It's the 18th consecutive year tolls have risen on America's oldest toll road. According to turnpike commission commission officials, there will be a 3.5 percent toll increase in 2027 and a 3 percent increase in 2028.
On the turnpike mainline and the Northeast Extension, where tolls are calculated per segment and distance traveled, the per-mile rate has jumped from $.07 to $.073 and the segment fee from $1.09 to $1.13.

The most-common toll for a passenger vehicle will increase from $1.86 to $1.94 for E-ZPass customers and from $3.72 to $3.88 for Toll By Plate customers. The most-common toll for a Class-5 tractor trailer will increase from $23.16 to $24.12 for E-ZPass and from $46.32 to $48.24 for Toll By Plate.
The constant annual toll increases are attributable to a state law approved in 2007 that requires the turnpike commission to aid in funding statewide transportation projects beyond turnpike operations. According to turnpike commission officials, the turnpike has provided more than $8 billion to the state for that purpose since 2008.

Turnpike officials said that despite the consistent toll hikes, its E-ZPass passenger toll rates are below the national average compared to other U.S. toll roads, bridges and tunnels.
Travelers can also pre-plan travel expenses using the PA Turnpike’s online Toll Calculator.It factors system entry and exit points, vehicle class and payment method (E-ZPass or Toll By Plate) and highlights the cost difference.
