Pittsburgh-Area Man Accused Of Pokemon Card Plundering

PITTSBURGH, PA — A Ford City man was charged by New Kensington Police after they said he stole more than $13,000 worth of valuable trading cards at a local store.

According to the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office, police were called to the Feisty Goblin on Fifth Avenue in late November for a suspected retail theft.

The owners of the store told officers they believe a frequent customer had been stealing large amounts of merchandise.

Police reviewed surveillance video of the incidents and observed the customer stealing merchandise by placing items directly in a bag or distracting workers and stealing the items by leaving the store.

New Kensington Police said the customer stole from the store a total of 12 different times, and the total reported loss was over $13,118.

The customer was identified as Jeffrey Spang, 48.

Investigators located Spang's vehicle outside of the store and executed a search warrant where they discovered more packs of valuable, stolen trading cards.

Police believe the trading cards are rare and were allegedly stolen from around the Pittsburgh region.

Spang was charged with retail theft. He faces a preliminary hearing later this month.
