Pittsburgh-Area School Students Might Have Consumed Glass, Insulin

The potential contaminants might have been consumed at a Pittsburgh-area elementary school event on Wednesday.

FAYETTE COUNTY, PA — Albert Gallatin Area School District elementary students and their parents might have consumed glass and insulin at an event at A.L. Wilson Elementary School on Wednesday.

The potential contaminants were in shaved ice served at the school's Trunk or Treat event.

District Superintendent Christopher Pegg put out an alert to parents on the district's website.

"The shaved ice may have been contaminated with insulin and broken glass," Pegg stated.

"If you or your child/children consumed any shaved ice and are experiencing any adverse effects, please seek immediate medical attention. Also, please contact the school or the Albert Gallatin business office to notify us if you or your child have had any ill effects as a result of consuming the shaved ice."

The message did not detail how the potential contaminants might have gotten into the ice.
