Pittsburgh Area Under Wildfire Threat, Weather Service Says

The National Weather Service is warning that wildfires could be a problem around Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service is warning that a combination of dry and windy conditions on Wednesday afternoon will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across Western Pennsylvania.

Minimum relative humidity values will range from the teens to 25 percent accompanied by southerly wind gusts between 20 and 30 mph.

People are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. Cigarette butts should not be discarded. The weather service is warning that if dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly.
