Pittsburgh-Area Woman Shoots, Kills Husband: Authorities

An apparent domestic dispute turned deadly in a Pittsburgh-area community. Patch provides the details.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A Pittsburgh-area woman is in jail after allegedly shooting her husband to death over the weekend.

According to the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office, Leeann Steel, 51, of Hempfield Township, called 911 to say that she shot her husband and that he needed medical attention.

Pennsylvania State Troopers responded Merlin Lane in Hempfield and found William Steel in a bedroom of the residence surrounded by blood. He had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

A firearm, a Beretta Tomcat, was located on a table on the front porch of the residence and appeared to be recently fired, according to troopers.

Troopers located Leeann Steel in a neighboring yard. She was arrested and arraigned on a single count of criminal homicide and denied bail.
