Pittsburgh Broadcasting Pioneer Dies
One of the first employees hired at a Pittsburgh TV station has died at the age of 94.
PITTSBURGH, PA — By Williams, one of the original employees at WPXI-TV (then WIIC), has died. Mr. Williams served in various on-air and management roles at the station.
Mr. Williams, 94, of Whitehall succumbed to Alzheimer's Disease.
Hired in 1957 at WIIC, Mr. Williams was a senior director at the station from 1957-60, then became an on-air personality at the station for nine years. He hosted local favorite shows that included "The Mickey Mouse Club," "Luncheon at the Ones," "Battle of the Wits," and the "Big Show."

Mr. Williams also spent several years at the station as a news anchor and weather forecaster before returning to management and serving in several capacities at WPXI.
Mr. Williams also served as president of the board president of the Allegheny County Easterseals, the Pittsburgh professional chapter of Sigma Delta Chi and the West Virginia University Pennsylvania Alumni Association. He also served on numerous media boards and committees and was chairman of the Pittsburgh Press Club.
