Pittsburgh Deep Freeze: See How Low Temperatures Have Plunged

Many Pittsburgh-area communities saw temperatures drop below zero early Tuesday.

PITTSBURGH, PA —Many Western Pennsylvania communities recorded subzero temperatures Tuesday as the region remained in the grip of one of the coldest weather snaps in nearly a decade.

At 8 a.m. in Pittsburgh, the temperature was -1 with a wind chill of -16, according to the National Weather Service. The high is expected to be 14, with an overnight low of -8.

The weather service early Tuesday published a list of unofficial temperature readings taken overnight in various communities by highway departments, observers, Skywarn spotters and media forecasters. Here's how cold it got in certain Allegheny County municipalities:

Western Pennsylvania remains under a cold weather advisory until 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to slightly moderate on Thursday and Friday, with highs anticipated to be in the mid-20s.
