Pittsburgh Police Shoot, Kill Armed Suspect
A Pittsburgh police officer fatally shot a man Wednesday.
PITTSBURGH, PA — A Pittsburgh police officer shot and killed an armed man in the city's Hill District Wednesday.
According to Allegheny County police, city police were dispatched to the 100 block of Hyman Place after a security guard encountered an armed man during a routine patrol of the apartments in the area. The guard told police the man pointed the weapon at the guard and then fled.
A short time later, officers encountered the man on Bentley Street and Devillers Street and began pursuing him. He fled on Devillers Street and was seen hiding behind a dumpster near Wylie Avenue.

At 5:22 p.m., the man emerged from behind the dumpster and ignored commands by officers to drop his weapon. He continued approaching them when an officer shot the man. County police said officers rendered aid, but the man died a short time later at an area hospital.
