Pittsburgh Restaurant Renovates To Resolve Rodent Problems

A Pittsburgh restaurant that closed due to rodent issues is open and serving food again.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Three months after closing after an Allegheny County Health Department inspection revealed rodent issues, southern chain Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar has reopened in Station Square.

Tupelo Honey first opened in January 2022 in the space occupied for decades by the former Cheese Cellar. The restaurant shut down in October when the health department found rodent droppingsunderneath the booths on the property's eastern wall, a nest and fresh droppings in the service hallway behind the eatery and a gap underneath doors in the service hallway leading outdoors.

Tupelo Honey reopened following a Jan. 14 inspection that noted the restaurant had laid new brick and drywall to close off any openings into the retail space and hired a cleaning company to deep-clean the eatery.

Many glue boards and snap traps were found in the kitchen and dining area, but no rodent activity was observed on the traps.

Tupelo Honey "has made great progress in abating conditions that allow for the entry of rodents," the report stated.
