PITTSBURGH, PA — A multi-million dollar renovation adding upgraded amenities to the AMC Waterfront 22 is far from the only change coming to the retail-restaurant-residential complex in Homestead.

AMC officially unveiled its fully remodeled theater on Wednesday. The multiplex now includes a new MacGuffins bar, a completely renovated lobby and restrooms, updated concessions and new seating.

The more spacious comfortable rocking and reclining seating arrangement has reduced seating capacity from 4,200 to 2,300. That reduction has significant implications.

Because the theater will have fewer overall patrons, the number of parking spaces required for moviegoers can be reduced.

Marty Sweeney, a senior vice president of acquisitions and asset management for M & J Wilkow, owner of a major portion of The Waterfront, including the cineplex, said the AMC renovation gives his company about two acres Wilkow begins to begin marketing in 2026. Sweeney said potentially three parcels could be developed for restaurants, a hotel or new residential development.

That's not the only major change ahead for The Waterfront.

Opal Grand Buffet recently announced it will replace the empty former Rock Bottom brewpub in a 15,000-square-foot space adjacent to Dave & Buster's. Also coming is a new 9,000-square-foot Running Dish Asian Food Hall and a Good Feet store.

Additionally, the former Mitchell's Fish Market has been demolished to clear space for a 250-unit apartment complex along the Monongahela River. The building will be accessible to the town center portion of The Waterfront via a pedestrian bridge.
