Popular Pittsburgh Restaurant Hit With Consumer Alert

The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for this eatery.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for Jian's Kitchen on Forbes Avenue in Squirrel Hill for numerous health code violations.

A Feb. 6 inspection revealed fresh rodent droppings throughout the eatery, including beneath the shelves in a dry storage area, on the bottom shelf of a cart in the server area, beneath the shelves in the server area, on a tray holding drinking glasses, underneath the dishwasher, on the bottom shelves of the front desk, all over a coat in a soft fabric cube at the front desk, inside the interior cabinet of the deep fryer and on the floors at the wall-floor junction throughout the restaurant.

Found in the cabinet next to the prep cooler on the cookline were two dead roaches, approximately 20 cockroach egg casings and too many to count cockroach droppings. Roach droppings also were observed in the server area.

A restaurant with a consumer alert placard is allowed to operate for a temporary period not exceeding 10 days. Another inspection is conducted either prior to the expiration of the temporary period upon request of the eatery owner or on the tenth day.
