Retired Pittsburgh Cop Accused Of Shooting Teenage Grandson

A retired Pittsburgh police officer shot her grandson during an argument, police said.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A retired Pittsburgh police officer is facing multiple charges after allegedly shooting her grandson on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh Public Safety officials initially said police were investigating after a 16-year-old teen was dropped off at a local hospital at around 1:30 a.m. suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He is in stable condition. The teen was taken to the hospital by a female family member who left before police arrived.

Officers went to a residence in the 100 block of Hawthorne Court in Stanton Heights where the incident occurred. Public safety officials said later that Virginia Beck, 63, the teen's grandmother, has been arrested in connection with the shooting.

Police spokesman Cara Cruz has confirmed to media outlets that Beck is a retired city police officer.

Beck is charged with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person. She was denied bail and taken to the Allegheny County Jail, according to court documents.

Beck faces a preliminary hearing on March 4.
