Steelers Exploring Blockbuster Trade For QB: Report
A report says the Steelers are considering attempting a bombshell move to solve their quarterback issue.
PITTSBURGH, PA — With Russell Wilson and Justin Fields both free agents at the moment, the Steelers currently don't have a starting quarterback for next season. While they might bring back one of those two players, the team reportedly also is exploring the idea of a bombshell trade to acquire a long-term answer at quarterback.
Ryan Burr of the Big 10 Network on Thursday tweeted that the Steelers have made inquiries to the Jacksonville Jaguars about a trade for quarterback Trevor Lawrence. "This comes directly from the horse's mouth in the Jags organization," Burr stated. "WOW!"
Lawrence, 25, was the 2021 first overall NFL draft pick but has not flourished with the Jaguars. He has a 22-38 record with the team, throwing for 13,81 yards, 69 touchdowns and 46 interceptions. Last year, he went 2-8 with 2,045 yards, 11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Despite those uninspiring number, Burr suggested the Steelers likely would give up plenty to obtain Lawrence.
Steelers would deal this years #1 & #2, but with draft in Pittsburgh next year I would be very surprised if next years #1 is even on the table. https://t.co/g7VswZYwOn— Ryan Burr (@RyanBurr) February 13, 2025
Could such a trade actually occur? ESPN's Michael DiRocco dismissed the idea. DiRocco tweeted Thursday, "Regarding recent report that Steelers have inquired about a trade for Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, a Jaguars source said there's 'no chance' they'll trade Lawrence and called the idea 'ridiculous.'"
