Waymo Autonomous Taxi Service Arriving In Pittsburgh
Prepare for the imminent arrival in Pittsburgh of a taxi-service without drivers.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Yinz ready for driverless taxi service?
Waymo is bringing its fully autonomous ride-hailing service to Pittsburgh. The company will begin testing its vehicles in the city next week, initially using drivers.
"We’ll start manually driving in Pittsburgh’s downtown core with a fleet of our 5th and 6th generation Waymo Driver," a message on the company website stated. "We’ll validate our technology on Pittsburgh’s roads over the coming months as we work our way towards public launch in the future."

A specific estimated date for the public launch was disclosed.
The company, which currently operates or plans to operate in 26 markets, also plans to expand to Baltimore and St. Louis next week.

Formerly known as the Google Self-Driving Car Project Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company headquartered in Mountain View, California. It is a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., Google's parent company.
