Western PA School District Could Spend $25M On New HS Stadium

A Western Pennsylvania school district is mulling a $25 million high school stadium project.

NORTH HUNTINGDON, PA— The Norwin School District in Westmoreland County is considering demolishing the antiquated 60-year-old high school football stadium and building a new one, but doing so would come with a high price tag: $25 million.

School directors on Monday are expected to vote on whether to proceed with building a new home for the Norwin Knights as part of the district's A+ Facilities Project. This week, they received the cost estimate for the new facility during a presentation by Draw Collective, a Mt. Lebanon architectural firm.

On the current Knights Stadium site would be built a new grandstand with aluminum seating, a larger press box, restrooms, locker rooms and training areas. The field would be fitted with new turf and stadium lighting would be updated.

The A+ Facilities Project also includes a proposed overhaul of the high school auditorium. The cost of that project is pegged at about $8 million. It is unclear if school directors will vote on that plan Monday.
