PITTSBURGH, PA — A significant winter storm is hitting the Pittsburgh area, with snow already present in the metro area as of 9 a.m.
The latest from the National Weather Service is that Pittsburgh could see as much as six inches of snow. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Saturday until 1 p.m. on Sunday, but the weather service says the advisory could be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning.
That warning already is in effect for areas along and south of I-70 for this afternoon into Sunday with the heaviest snow expected. Totals in the warning are most likely to be 6-8 inches, though up to a localized 12 inches is possible in high terrain or as the result of snow bands.
