WPXI-TV Names Successor To Retired News Anchor David Johnson

For the first time in four decades, WPXI-TV has a new male co-anchor for its weekday forecasts.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Nearly a month after David Johnson's retirement, WPXI-TV has selected a successor to the revered news anchor.

The station announced Wednesday that Gordon Loesch is the new weekday co-anchor of the Channel 11 News evening newscasts at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.

According to his page on the station website, Loesch has been with WPXI-TV since 2004 and previously served as the 10 p.m., noon and weekend evening news anchor.

He previously worked as a reporter and photographer at WWTV-TV in Cadillac-Traverse City MI, as a weekend anchor and then morning anchor at WKBN-TV in Youngstown, and as a a reporter and fill-in anchor at WXYZ-TV in Detroit.

Loesch has won eight Emmy awards, including the 2024 and 2022 Mid-Atlantic Emmy for best news anchor, and has 20 other Emmy nominations - including 7 in the best anchor and best reporter categories.

Johnson departed WPXI in December after four decades. He was part of the longest-running anchor team in Pittsburgh TV history along with Peggy Finnegan before her retirement in 2020.
