North and South Parks Open Skating Rinks Thursday

Allegheny County Parks will open their skating rinks tomorrow.

The Allegheny County Parks Department today announced that the North Park and South Park ice rinks will open for the season at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, weather and conditions permitting. The 2014-15 ice skating season will run through mid-March.

The county has made significant improvements to the North Park Ice Rink, including: replacing the interior flooring; cleaning and painting interior walls and ceiling; repairing and painting the dasher boards; painting the rear exterior of the building; painting the observation deck; and replacing concrete on the front exterior sidewalk and entry apron.

Improvements to the South Park Ice Rink include: installing a new roof on the front overhang; painting the front and rear exterior of the building; and installing a new computer system that operates the rink’s circulating pumps.

Ice skating admission rates and rental fees for the 2014-15 season are $5 for Allegheny residents, and $6 for nonresidents. The county will also host free and paid skating lessons throughout the season. Check the Winter Fun website for more information.
