Plum Ranked As 'City on the Rise'
A study, which ranked 88 towns in Pennsylvania according to economic growth, placed Plum at number 13.

Plum is one of Pennsylvania’s fastest-growing cities, according to a new study from financial advocacy site NerdWallet.
As part of NerdWallet’s state-by-state series, they found Pennsylvania’s best “Cities on the Rise” by analyzing U.S. Census data for population, employment and income growth - and out of 88 communities Plum ranked 13.
From 2009 to 2012 Plum’s working-age population grew by 4.6 percent, and its median income shot up by 10.5 percent.

The top employers in Allegheny County are UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside, the University of Pittsburgh, and the federal government, respectively.
NerdWallet also said that Pennsylvania as a whole “weathered the recession well.” The high unemployment rates that affected most of the country, didn’t hit Pennsylvania as hard thanks to the Marcellus Shale. Pennsylvania’s , which saw its unemployment rate softened by an expansion in fossil fuel production.
