Dog Day Of Summer Is Saturday In Manayunk: What You Need To Know

MANAYUNK, PHILADELPHIA — The recent oppressive heat has truly made the past weeks the dog days of summer.

But this weekend, Manayunk is bringing back its free dog-focused event.

Dog Day of Summer will be held on from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.

The day will feature pet-friendly vendors, activities, adoptions, and more.

"Here at MDC [Manayunk Development Corporation], we’re all looking forward to the pup-centric event," said Caitlin Marsilii, Manayunk Development Corporation’s Events Coordinator. “It’s a fun day to celebrate our growing canine community, and we encourage everyone to come celebrate with us!"

Various Manayunk businesses will be participating in the event, including Pet Friendly Dog Bakery, City of Paws Pet Care, Lightpaws Dog Training, and Pooch Scoochers.

Other local businesses include the Rox Falls Vet, Brixxy & Co., and Piggyback Treats Company. Many of the event participants will be selling pet-friendly goodies or hosting fun activities, such as a puppy pool party and a dog-friendly sundae station.

This year, guests can enjoy the puppy park and agility course, paw readings by Clairvoyant Monica, dog caricatures, and photo-ops at the puppy photo booth.

They can also catch some dog inspired poetry at the Whitman! On Walls event taking place at Venice Island Performing Arts Center.

There will also be adoptions from Saved Me Adoption Center, which will be bringing some furry friends ready to find their permanent homes.

Lastly, Manayunk restaurants and bars will be hosting "Yappy Hour" with food and drink specials. Restaurants participating will have a Yappy Hour poster in their window.

All parking lots will be open during the event. Streets will not be closed.
