Holiday Events In Chestnut Hill-Mt Airy: Parades, Lightings, More

CHESTNUT HILL-MT. AIRY, PHILADELPHIA — There is no shortage of things to do in the Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy area to get the winter holiday season off to a rollicking good start.

Christmas and Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish festival of lights, intersect this year, with Hanukkah running Dec. 18-26. Christmas, of course, is on Dec. 25, but you don’t have to wait to start taking in all the sights and sounds of the holidays.

Tree and menorah lightings in the Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy area are:

Happy Holidays from Roxborough

From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, Santa will be in Roxborough's Pocket Park for selfies.

Santa will help light the tree at 4 p.m.

The event will also feature letter writing to Santa, ornament making, storytelling, and performances.

Can Menorah Lighting

From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on December 18, Congregation Beth El – Ner Tamid in Broomall will host its Can Menorah Lighting event.

The public is invited to attend the grand lighting of the Can-Menorah.

Latke bingo will follow immediately after the lighting of the Can-Menorah

Attendees are asked to drop off cans of food to the bin located outside the Sanctuary doors

There will be a donation box outside during school drop off and pick up times.
Congregation Beth El – Ner Tamid is located at 715 Paxon Hollow Road in Broomall.

Newtown Township

Santa will be on hand for the St. Albans Circle Tree Lighting from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4.

He will arrive on a Newtown Township Volunteer Fire Company fire truck for the tree lighting.

Donate non-perishable food items for St. Alban’s Episcopal Church’s food drive and unwrapped new children’s toy for Toys for Tots.

Havertown Holiday Festival

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, the Havertown Holiday Festival will have a lit holiday tree and lit menorah on Brookline Boulevard in Havertown.

There will also be costumed characters, live holiday music, story time and crafts for kids, food vendors, a beer & hot adult beverages, a holiday marketplace, and an ice sculpture demonstration.

Christmas in Bryn Mawr

At 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, a tree lighting ceremony and carol singalong will take place in front of the gazebo behind the Ludington Library, 5 S. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Bryn Mawr.

Santa Claus will arrive on a fire truck and the Main Line Trombone Quartet will be playing music.

Hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

Christmas parades — often complete with Santa Claus, festively decorated floats and marching bands — are a holiday tradition, both nationally and locally.

Where To Buy, Cut Fresh Christmas Trees In Chestnut Hill, Mt Airy Area

Several big parades are taking place this year, including the Mayor’s Annual Christmas Parade in Baltimore City, Maryland; the Target Holidazzle Parade in Minneapolis; and the Christmas Boat Parade in Newport Beach, California.

Parades in the Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy area may not be able to match those in size, but the heart behind them is just as big. Parades to catch here at home include:

Santa's Parade

On Sunday, Nov. 27, Media will host Santa's Parade in Vet Square between State and Baker streets.
The fun begins at 2:30 a.m. with a block party that will feature music, games, food, drink, and more. There will also be a costume contest at 4 p.m. and winners will get to ride in the parade with Santa.

A fun run/walk will take place at 4:15 p.m.

Then, Santa's parade will step off at 5 p.m. The parade will feature Mummers, Drummers, Musicians, Dancers, Classic Cars, Fire Engines, and of course Santa Claus.
