Springfield Police Warn of Thefts from Cars

According to Springfield Police Department’s Lt. William Donohue, people have been going through unlocked and locked cars at night, taking just about anything inside.

The crimes have taken place over night over the past few weeks.

Donohue said the police want to “alert people to lock your cars at night and don’t leave anything visible inside your car.”

If you leave a GPS unit sitting on your dashboard someone might smash the window and take it, he said, adding his advice to bring things in from her car if you can overnight.

“If they want in your car they’re going to get in, but why encourage them,” he said.

Donohue said to call 9-1-1 if you see or hear anything suspicious in regards to theft from cars.
