Current students in the Conestoga High School Chapter of the National Honor Society compare notes with NHS members from the 1950's.

Members of the chapter of The National Honor Society got a chance to talk with their predecessors from the 1950's last week at the school.

The students and alumni compared notes and shared stories about how the school has changed over the past 50+ years.

•Graduating classes are much bigger now. There are 500 students in the class of 2012, compared with only 125 seniors in the late 50's. Current NHS Chapter President Billy Zahn says 80-100 students are now inducted into the NHS each year.

•Honor society members today must have a grade point average between 4.7 an 5.3. Back in the 50's, the highest GPA students could earn was a 5.0. (Some classes are now weighted based on difficulty and subject matter)

•Today's NHS members must put in a minimum of 15 hours of service to the (school or outside) community. There was no service requirement 50 years ago.

•The district (in general) is now far more affluent than in the 50's when, as one of the alumni NHS members pointed out, many kids came from farm families.
