Historic Tredyffrin Church to Make History Again Tonight

18 years after being shuttered, Mt. Zion's A.M.E.'s historic church building will host August services starting tonight.

It is among the oldest church buildings in a region full of rich church history. For the first time since closing in 1993 the "Old Mt. Zion" church building on the grounds of will be home to church services.  A special series of four Thursday night worship services begins tonight at 7 p.m.. The services are open to the public and dress is "very casual" according to Church Historian Bertha Jackmon.

Jackmon says Mt. Zion A.M.E. dates back 162 years and is is the oldest African Methodist Episcopal Church on the entire Main Line

The original church building on the corner of Fairfield Road and Berwyn Baptist Road in Devon has not been used for services in 18 years. The congregation meets in a modern building across the church cemetery from the historic historic building.

The series of four special services will be held each Thursday night in August at 7pm. Jackmon says there will be a different preacher for each service. Mt. Zion's pastor, Rev. April Martin will speak this week.
