How To Suppport Tredyffrin, Easttown Neighbors As SNAP Suspension Looms

About one in eight Americans use Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. As the program's suspension nears, here's how to help locally.

TREDYFFRIN-EASTTOWN, PA — The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is about to be suspended amid the federal government shutdown.

Roughly one in eight Americans use the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to purchase groceries.

With the program's suspension looming on Saturday, many Tredyffrin- and Easttown-area residents may be wondering how they can help their hungry neighbors.

The Caring Cupboard Food Pantry is located at the Trinity Presbyterian Church and will be open again from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 8 and Nov. 22.

The food pantry accepts unexpired, non-perishable food in jars, cans and sealed packets. Below are some of the most requested items:

  • tea
  • cooking oil
  • toothpaste
  • maple syrup
  • jelly
  • bath soap
  • flour
  • mayo
  • toilet paper
  • sugar
  • crackers
  • laundry detergent
  • pet food

Volunteers can also help with:

  • pantry organizing and stocking (Fridays)
  • food pickup from suppliers (Fridays)
  • food delivery (Fridays and Saturdays)
  • pantry client assistant volunteer (Saturdays)

Trinity Presbyterian Church is located at 640 Berwyn Ave. in Berwyn. When arriving, park in the lot on Waterloo Avenue, using a GPS Address of 51 Waterloo Ave. in Berwyn.

Additionally, the Berwyn United Methodist Church hosts a food pantry that will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 4, Nov. 11, and Nov. 18.

Donations can be made from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Sundays.

A red donation bin is located outside the church's front doors and is monitored regularly.

The Berwyn United Methodist Church is located at 140 Waterloo Ave. in Berwyn.

Great Valley Food Cupboard also offers food pantry services at the Baptist Church in the Great Valley in Devon.

Sought are all types of non-perishable foods.

Those who wish to help can donate the following:

  • One box of cereal, preferably Cheerios, Corn Flakes, or Frosted Flakes
  • One container of oatmeal
  • One jar of peanut butter
  • One jar of strawberry or grape jelly
  • One jar of regular marinara pasta sauce
  • One box of spaghetti
  • One box of granola bars
  • One pack of juice boxes
  • One can of tuna
  • One can of fruit (peaches, cocktail, etc.)
  • A package of Tastykakes
  • One box of crackers, such as Triscuits, or a bag of pretzels

Additionally, items such as cleaning supplies, paper towels, and toilet paper are also welcome for donation.

Items for donation should be dropped off in the vestibule of the Scott building, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. If the building is locked, leave all bags under the overhang.

The pantry is open each Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the second Wednesday of each month, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Lastly, the Paoli Presbyterian Church Food Cupboard is in need of peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna, large soup, pasta sauce, cereal and canned meals.

Distribution is 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. the first Wednesday of every month and from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. the third Tuesday of every month. Volunteers are needed on distributions days for sorting and shelving, and to help with food drives and holiday packages.
