Severe Weather Advisories Issued for Sunday Afternoon and Evening

Severe thunderstorm warnings are followed by flash flood watch for Sunday afternoon and evening.

Severe thunder storms were reported moving through Southeastern Pennsyvania Sunday afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a severe thundrestorm warning and a flash flood watch for Chester and Delaware Counties.

The severe thunderstorm warning that had been set to expire at 2:30 p.m. was extended to 3:45 p.m. A severe thunderstorm watch has been extended to 9 p.m. Sunday.

In one of the more strongly worded storm warning statement in recent storms the NWS cautions:

"THIS IS A DANGEROUS STORM. IF YOU ARE IN ITS PATH...PREPARE IMMEDIATELY FOR DAMAGING WINDS...DESTRUCTIVE HAIL...AND DEADLY CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING. PEOPLE OUTSIDE SHOULD MOVE TO A SHELTER... PREFERABLY INSIDE A STRONG BUILDING BUT AWAY FROM WINDOWS."

Flash Flood Watch into late Sunday night

A statement from the NWS says rains over the past week have saturated the ground and "downpours can be expected from thunderstorms into the night. This may lead to flash flooding.
