"This almost 9-acre piece of Upper Dublin Township open space was ravaged by the September 1 tornado," the Parks and Recreation department stated in a Tuesday Facebook post. "While small now, these trees will create a new forested area for generations to enjoy."

The department said that 500 live stakes were also planted along the streamways in this same area of open space last month, and that local officials have other tree planting projects planned for this spring including at the SPARK fields, Rose Valley Preserve, Loch Alsh Reservoir and Veterans Memorial Park.

Upper Dublin was one of the hardest hit communities when a powerful tornado created by Hurricane Ida came through the region in early September of last year.

The storm caused widespread damage to township facilities, schools and private homes.

Different parts of the community continue to grapple with restoration and cleanup efforts six months after Ida pummeled Southeastern Pennsylvania.
