Upper Dublin Begins Recovery From Ida's Destruction

Montgomery County confirmed one person died in Upper Dublin "due to structural damage from the storm."

UPPER DUBLIN, PA — Residents and officials in Upper Dublin are assessing damage to homes, businesses, and roads after Hurricane Ida, weakened but still deadly, tore through Montgomery County on Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-2 tornado touched down in Montgomery County, traveling from Fort Washington and Upper Dublin Township up to Horsham Township.

The county confirmed one person died in Upper Dublin "due to structural damage from the storm" but did not provide more details; other media are reporting a woman died when a tree fell into her home. Dr. Val Arkoosh, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, said two other people in the county have died.

The tornado caused extensive damage, including to the Upper Dublin Police Station, a county representative told Patch. Upper Dublin Township and Montgomery County have both declared a local disaster.

The National Weather Service is in the area, surveying damage in Montgomery and Bucks counties.

The township has a temporary shelter for anyone who was displaced from their home at Jarrettown Elementary School in Dresher. Montgomery County also has a shelter set up at the Norristown Area High School in Norristown.

All schools and offices at Upper Dublin School District are closed Thursday and Friday, and all activities are canceled.
