Township to Decide on Dedicating Road to Fallen Soldier

A member of the elite First Cavalry Division, Harold E. Cashman died for his country on Jan. 31, 1968 in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. To help his name live on, Upper Moreland Township will decide whether or not to rename a portion of the street close to where he grew up.

There will be a public hearing tonight at 7 p.m. and the consideration of the ordinance will be the first item on the agenda.

The section of the roadway to be renamed is between County Line and Byberry roads - which is jointly owned by Hatboro and Upper Moreland Township - and is close to Cashman's childhood home on Corinthian Road. The Hatboro Borough Council recently granted approval for the honorary sign to be placed on their side of the roadway, and now Upper Moreland will make their decision tonight.

The recognition is part of a project State Rep. Tom Murt (R-152) began last year to publicly recognize seven servicemen in his district who died in combat during the Vietnam War.

Similar to the of Hatboro, the sign designating a portion of Warminster Road as the SP4 Harold E. Cashman Memorial Highway would serve as an honorary designation, officials said.

The rest of the agenda of tonight's meeting includes a presentation by consultant on the Speed Hump Study (Chief Nestel) and the consideration of revisions to the Upper Moreland Historical Commission Ordinance.
