Upper Moreland Students Honor Constitution Day in Their Own Style

Each year, our schools commemorate Constitution Day with developmentally appropriate activities and programs for our students. Constitution Day provides the opportunity to reflect on our history in a way that is meaningful to our students, and to celebrate the significant gift developed for all of us by the founders of our Nation. From creating a “Classroom Constitution” with our youngest students, to discussing the Electoral College process with our high school students, the activities and programs developed by our staff for Constitution Day are intended to build understanding and meaning. It is my hope that the work we do on Constitution Day and throughout the year will help our students to expand not only their knowledge, but also their appreciation for just how special it is to live in the United States of America.

Intermediate School: This was a week long event at the Intermediate School celebrating -Patriotism Week.  Teachers focused on the patriotism of our troops in responding to 9/11 and how it has made our country stronger.  There will also be an overview of Constitution Day and a whole school flag salute on the PA system daily.

The Primary School has a constitution signing that represents the primary school and focuses on the virtues and responsibilities we have implemented in our building. Each grade has a constitution that every student signs. Each class is also responsible for promoting and discussing Constitution Day within their classroom.

Middle School: Sixth grade teachers utilized Constitution Day to discuss voting rights. The students explored the evolution of voting rights in the Unites States through an interactive PowerPoint presentation highlighting landmark changes. Following the presentation and class discussion, students applied the new knowledge of voting legislation to individual scenarios through a class activity.
